History: The Bizarre story of Strong White Women in Ancient Europe.... especially the Germans

Here is something to ponder over.

I am sure most of you have heard the story of Spartan Mothers who would say to their son something along the lines of: "Here's your shield, return with it or return on it" - meaning either come back VICTORIOUS or come back DEAD!

That was pretty rough sounding hey?

Well, I've seen some interesting comments by modern historians about the white women of those ancient times, which should make you think.

There was a tradition among the Spartans that if a man wanted a woman and she would not willingly succumb to him, he could have her IF HE COULD FIGHT HER! But, if this woman could fight him off... then of course he could NOT have her! But think about that for a second... a warrior culture, where a man would have to fight and physically subdue a woman (which, frankly sounds rather like rape hey?). Even if the men could subdue most women, think about the fact that women are generally smaller than men, and that a woman would have to be pretty strong to be able to win against a man. That such situations even existed... is interesting.

As a digression I must tell you, I've heard black men talking about WIVES and girlfriends who beat them up. It is apparently not that uncommon.

But back to Europe. Another historian, discussing Arminius and his annihilation of 3 Roman Legions in Germany also remarked upon the tradition of STRONG GERMAN WOMEN. Apparently, the German women were pretty tough and they also of course wanted strong (Alpha-male) men. He cited the example of Arminius abducting the daughter of a German chieftan who was a traitor to the German cause. The daughter then thought that Arminius was actually good enough for her, and that she deserved to be married to him! And he married her!

But this historian mentioned something weird. Get this: He said German women were tough and were known TO KILL THEIR MEN IF THEY WERE FLEEING IN RETREAT FROM BATTLE!!!

We whites come from a savage and tough group of people. We might not be built as physically strong as many blacks are, but there is something about the warrior spirit of ancient Europeans that is really quite amazing. These people didn't give an inch!

But I must tell you something about German men. In Julius Caesar's Civil War, he tells us some interesting facts about the Germans. He said that German men liked to make war and they were especially proud of the fact that there was this no-man's land around their borders. The Germans made sure their enemies stayed a distance away. Because the Germans made so much war, half the men would go to war one year and the other half would stay behind to do the work. Caesar said that German men became very strong because of this way of life, because those who remained behind had to do twice the work!

General Von Manstein, in his memoirs also mentioned that Germans saw war as a type of a challenge. He said there was something in the German make-up that they quite enjoyed a challenge.

But, I must say though, this mention of women killing their men if they were fleeing in retreat certainly is something I've never come across before, and I rewound the video several times to listen to this piece where the historian mentioned it.

And those Germanic tribes later on swarmed across the Roman Empire and even set up an empire along the northern coastline of Africa where they held sway for a few centuries.

As for Arminius, who defeated the Romans, I think he was killed by the Germans when he tried to unite them all. (I could be wrong). But I think they murdered him and did not want one king. Arminius's defeat of the Romane Legions on Teutoberg Forest was sheer brilliance. The ambush and the deception that accompanied it, and how he deceived the Roman General was sheer brilliance. It was a bizarre and amazing battle. Apparently they still find artifacts from that battle in the Teutoberg forest to this day. The Germans, incidentally, kept the Roman remains and armour and weapons as "sacred relics" for years.

You should read _Nutrition and Physical Degeneration_ by Weston A. Price. The reason that Germans and Celts were larger and stronger than Romans was that they subsisted on fatty meat, organ meat, and milk (they probably knew how to make cheese and butter too), while the Mediterranean peoples had a higher percentage of grain in their diets.

Dr. Price also had a chapter in his book on the Masai in Kenya (this was in the 1930s). The reason that the Masai were larger and stronger than the tribes neighboring them (whom they dominated) was that they lived mostly on the output of their cattle herds, and not vegetables, while the tribes they dominated tended to have little meat or fish in their diets.

Most of the health problems of modern people have to do with our industrial diet. A low-fat diet high in vegetable oil, contrary to the propaganda, is not conducive to good health, nor should people eat too much bread and pasta. And unfermented soy is not fit for human consumption!!!!

Getting back to the ancients---it's true that the Germanic barbarians did not subjugate their women the way so many others did (see the account of Marius defeating the Cimbri and the Teutones ca. 100 BCE at the battle of Vercellae)(I think it was Vercellae), but the fact remains that the Romans and Greeks defeated the Germans and Gauls much more often than they were defeated by them. The reason for that is that they were much better organized than the tribal peoples; one book I read, for instance, made the point that we have no record of any barbarians fighting against Romans EVER having a tactical reserve; they all wanted the glory of being in the fight, and would feel dishonored if they were held back.

Arminius defeated Varus through treachery; Varus never even knew that Arminius had led him into a trap until Arminius (who had been granted Roman citizenship) deserted the Roman army just before the huge ambush of the three legions was sprung. The Romans were beaten because they were surprised in the middle of the woods, and couldn't get into a battle formation. And Arminius was actually defeated several years later by a revenge expedition led by Germanicus. The Romans basically left Germany mostly alone after the destruction of Varus' legions because it was too expensive to go back there permanently.

Just my two cents' (or maybe five cents' :)) worth...

I must disagree with the author about blacks being stronger than Whites. I do not live in Africa but I do have a fair amount of experience with blacks, as Canada is pretty much a third world country at present. It is true that blacks in general can run longer and faster than Whites but from my experience with them it seems to me that they succumb to pain and discomfort much faster. They seem to be nothing but big babies! When they stub their finger or get a little cut they just quit! I think this may be one of their biggest downfalls. My experience comes from instructing martial arts also from working with them. If anyone can elighten me further on blacks please send me an E-mail.

Indeed!

When one considers that the Germans, a small country and small population (in terms of weighing up the populations of their enemies), has one hell of a strong people, just look at WWI and WWII...fighting against pretty much the ENTIRE world, and doing one hell of a job!
Not once, but twice, in just a short period of time.

I think, the Germans could have won the war against the entire world, were it not for Hitler...

Just look at the Boers, children of Germany. Once more a small group could battle it out with a vastly superior army, battling the commonwealth which pretty much consisted a large proportion of the worlds population, and militarily winning!

The Germans are a peoples not to be messed with, that is clear, and the only way to defeat them, is to throw the entire world against them, and even then it's not assured...
