Polokwane - A 15-year-old boy has been arrested after he was discovered raping a mentally retarded 70-year-old woman in Lebowakgomo, police said on Wednesday.

Spokesperson constable Kgabo Kekana said another boy had been on his way from a playground to a toilet on Tuesday when he heard what sounded like an argument and went to investigate.

He found the alleged rapist on top of an old woman and ran back to the playground where he called on some other boys for assistance.

"On arrival they found that the boy was still busy," Kekana said.

He ran away and was chased by the boys who eventually caught him.

He apologised and was arrested when the woman's daughter reported the rape to police.

The boy was still in custody and would possibly appear in court tomorrow. Investigations continued.
