Desperate cry for help from Zimbabwe
Hello again friends,
At this time we all know whats happening in Zimbabwe and who the cause of it is. This isn't a thrill, letter of blame.
With this letter I want to appeal to everyone to become involved, whether through your church, your business, your cell-group or as a family to give urgent attention to the utterly wretched situation in Zimbabwe. We are in crying need of food, blankets, medical equipment and even also Bibles.
There is this week, and while you are reading this, new, organised attacks against innocent, ordinary people in rural areas. The attacks are intense and at night and the people are seriously being assaulted and their belongings destroyed so that they can't come back and vote again.
The number of injured people is huge, in the thousands, and they must be carried, treated and fed. The numbers rise every day.
There is an organisation drawn from all church groups, Christian Alliance, whose members are pastors who are a-political and have the "guts" to step up and fulfil the real purpose of the church. That is to look after the needy, without favour. Praise God for Joshuas and Gideons today (Josh 1:9 "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.")
They have taken the responsibility to look after the refugees, have them treated and then hide them away in the community. (Josh 2:4 "But the woman had taken the two men and hidden them....")
In this letter I want to make their contact no.s available so that you personally can contact the leaders and evaluate between yourselves what the needs are and also how you might support them.
The Red Cross in Zimbabwe was taken over by the ruling party a couple of years ago, and shall not help and if you do donate to them, it shall be used for another purpose.
So too most NGO's.
In case you already have contacts in Zim, I suggest you deliver stuff to these people again, so they can channel it safely. But, please, only send something that's urgently needed. Here there is no food available, and what is available is not affordable to the common man.
I also want to propose that you buy goods in smaller quantities, eg. 2kg packets of sugar, 10kg packets of meal, etc., and that this time the goods are ferried across the border in smaller haulage, eg. a bakkie (pick-up) and trailor. It can be brought up to Bulawayo or also Misvingo, from where we will distribute it wider afield. If you want to bring greater quantities and don't want to cross the border, the goods can be unloaded in Messina, from where we'll organise for someone to fetch it and bring it over the border; you just have to arrange the pick up with them.
By food we mean: maizemeal (mielemeal), sugar, cooking oil, powered milk, dried vegetables, eg. beans, rice, mixed vegetables; soap (Sunlight bars, we'll divide it up).
These are absolutely basic products that are needed. Medical equipment must be brought over in small amounts. This is critical. There is an organisation in Harare which treats people. They work in extreme danger and need financial help, too. The injuried must be transported to Harare and back again at high cost.
The state institutions may not help these injured people.
It is tragic that this country, which has the most devoted Christians per capita in the world, has to suffer so much and no-one does anything. The Word of God can still be preached freely (2 Kings 6:16 "Don't be afraid," the prophet answered. "Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.")
There is an enormous, Muslim attack in the whole of Africa, especially Mozambique and South Africa. We must do something to help brothers in Christ.
Our answer is to remain in the Lord and OUR prayer (too) is Ps 46:7-11:
7 The LORD Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
Selah
8 Come and see the works of the LORD,
the desolations he has brought on the earth.
9 He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth;
he breaks the bow and shatters the spear,
he burns the shields [b] with fire.
10 "Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth."
11 The LORD Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
Selah
