S.Africa: Boy wounded in Joburg shootout between Police & Hijackers

A 12-year-old boy was shot and wounded during an exchange of gunfire between police and hijackers in Alexandra on Tuesday, Johannesburg police said.

Spokesperson Inspector Moses Maphakela said two men hijacked a Hyundai Getz in Bramley about 3pm.

"The vehicle was spotted at the Alexandra township and police chased the vehicle."

"The two hijackers got out of the car and started shooting at the police. Police returned fire and the 12-year-old boy walking on the side of the road at the time was shot," he said.

According to police the boy was in a stable condition in hospital.

Police were investigating a case of car hijacking in Bramley and a case or attempted murder and possession of a stolen vehicle in Alexandra. - Sapa
