Two murders, four rapes and two hijackings
Date Posted: Thursday 01-May-2008Two murders, four rapes and two hijackings took place in Mpumalanga province, police said on Thursday.
Superintendent Malcolm Mokomene said on Wednesday a 66-year-old woman was found strangled in her bed room in Daantjie.
Her legs were on the bed while her head was on the floor and police were investigating if the woman was raped, he said.
On the same day, a 21-year-old man was found dead with multiple stab wounds in the streets of Ermelo.
Police suspected he had been robbed since he was not wearing any shoes and did not have a cell phone on him.
Mokomene said a 13-year-old girl was raped repeatedly in Bushbuck Ridge from Tuesday until Wednesday.
A man had called her into his house to collect a bag of oranges when he raped her.
"He continued to rape her until she was able to escape his house around midday the next day."
Another girl, 11, was raped in Kinross on Tuesday after she had been sent to a shop by her parents around 7pm.
A man who lived in the area grabbed her and took her to his house where he raped her.
Mokomene said she was able to flee afterwards.
On Wednesday, a 46-year-old woman was raped in Nelspruit when she was on her way home.
She was about to cross the railway near her house, when two men grabbed her and pulled her under a nearby bridge where they raped her, Mokomene said.
Another woman was gang-raped by six men at Klipfontein dam near Witbank.
She was driving in a car with her boyfriend when they were attacked.
The men dragged her out of the car and assaulted the boyfriend, who then ran away as the men took turns raping the woman.
On the same day, a truck worth about R250 000 was hijacked by six men near Badplaats.
The men stopped the truck, telling the driver there was something wrong at the back.
When he got out to look, they locked him in the back of the truck, dropping him off later by the side of the road.
The same day a minibus was hijacked.
Three men pointed a firearm at the driver, tied his arms behind his back and left him by the side of the road as they drove off.
Police have made no arrests. - Sapa
