Pietersburg journalist Peter Cassidy, 68, tortured to death at home in typical "farm-murder style'
Pietersburg/polokwane - August 22 2007 -- Well-known Jacaranda-radio journalist, newspaper freelancer and long-time Pietersburg resident Peter Cassidy, 68, was murdered in his Savannah Mall, Flora Park house on Tuesday morning. His body was found on the floor of his bedroom in his house in McDonald Street in Flora Park. A rope was twisted around his neck and his hands and feet were tied when police found him. He was lying on his stomach.
This graphic illustrates this particularly gruesome killing-method also frequently carried out against many of the 2,200 SA farmers already murdered since the start of the Xhosa-hegemony of SA: link to graphic:

The journalist was found by police after they had discovered his old red Fiat bakkie abandoned in the Mankweng area about 30km from Pietersburg about 03:00 on Tuesday and had gone to his house to report the find, said provincial police superintendent Ronel Otto. Police said they weren't 'immediately clear whether anything had been taken from the house."
Cassidy (pictured above) was unmarried and had no children. He was apparently a very private person and didn't even possess a cellphone, saying he didn't like cellphones. Besides his freelance radio work, he also reported for two local newspapers in the city, namely the Northern Review and the Limpopo Informant. Cassidy was a golf enthusiast who was well-known for his reporting of the game.

His newspaper threatened for writing about a murder:
On the link immediately below this paragraph are this year's reported crime stats in Pietersburg. Not all crimes are reported by police to the news-media. In fact, The Northern Review, one of the two local newspapers Cassidy worked for on a free-lance basis, had recently received threats for writing about an earlier murder, their editor said on their website:

It is absolutely disgusting how the people who assisted in bringing power to the black majority are being rewarded for their efforts with murder and absolute terror.

It was a shock to read about the death of Peter Cassidy. We were colleagues at the black university of the north, (so called in those days) some 20 years ago now. We were part of the same car share scheme because we shared a liberal and non-racist attitude in comparison with other colleagues.
By the way, a gifted healer friend using a pendulum just informed me, this was the work of a black group, that drugs were involved, that they were known to Peter, so he did not expect anything, that unusual cruelty had been used, that it was betrayal and revenge.
Someobody wrote Peter "was only four feet". No no no. He was about 5 foot 6 inches.
