Afrikaner massacre at supermarket in Pretoria

Gert van Rensburg - hero who rescued attacked Afrikaners at Pretoria supermarket, dies

July 26 2007 -- PRETORIA. After fighting for his life for nearly 24 hours, Gert van Rensburg, 41, the Afrikaner hero of Thursday's bloody armed attack during which at least eightUNARMED Afrikaners were gunned down at a late-night supermarket in Hercules, Pretoria has been declared dead.

Gathered outside the entrance of Pretoria Academic Hospital's intensive care unit, Van Rensburg's family broke down in tears as doctors gave them the news.

It is believed that the gunmen had staked out the supermarket for days before attacking the Afrikaner shoppers inside. It was not a 'gun-battle' as nobody had shot back at the attackers - none of the Afrikaners inside the shop had carried any guns.

Nothing was robbed - which leads police to claim that it was a 'botched robbery'. However, nobody was arrested - meaning that police don't know the actual motives behind this attack because they haven't even questioned these attackers.

Van Rensburg - shot execution style in the back of the head - was caught up in the attack in Claremont on Wednesday night when five men, armed with an assortment of handguns, stormed Dealz Family Store in Bremer Road.

Van Rensburg who was shopping with fiancee Patrys Claasen, was one of the first to spot the gunmen storming in, guns at the ready.

He managed to push three children out of the supermarket before the robbers opened fire, shooting indiscriminately at customers and staff. Van Rensburg was shot execution-style in the back of his head while dragging the wounded Claasen and a critically injured Wilma Venter behind an ice-cream fridge.

The gunmen were shooting down the Afrikaners indiscriminately and the only reason they weren't all killed is because the attackers were such lousy shots - Claasen was shot at close range in the buttocks and hand as she lay on the floor, while Venter was shot through the head while trying to push her way past the gunmen.

They also shot cashier Aletta Koen and her boss, Paula Oosthuizen, who were behind the counter, in the legs. They then shot and critically injured customer Jacqueline Grobbelaar, who was waiting to pay for her shopping.

The gunmen, thought to be in their early 20s, then stormed past Grobbelaar's husband, Gawie Maritz, who was cowering outside the shop behind his car with his mentally handicapped son Arno, eight.

The two had been waiting for her while she was buying milk.

One of the gunmen then shoved a gun right into their faces and opened fire, but the bullets missed them. This attacker then fled, still firing at the two as the father and his young son ran into the shop for cover.

Maritz on Thursday described how he saw Van Rensburg pushing three children from the store as the robbers launched their attack.

"That man is a true hero. I have never met him before, but what he did for the children and the people inside the store saved their lives," he said.

Maritz said the bullet that hit his wife, whom doctors spent seven hours operating on, pierced her left lung, spleen, colon and small intestine before lodging in her pelvis.

He said he and the other families owed a big debt to Van Rensburg."He paid with his life. He gave up his life so other people could live.

"Despite bullets flying everywhere he ran to help others," he said.

Maritz said he was battling to understand why the robbers had opened fire.

"It is really difficult and my son is battling because he does not know where his mom is," he said, adding that doctors had given his wife a 50 percent chance of surviving.
Claasen said everything had happened so quickly.

"It was like a movie. There was blood everywhere. People were screaming and begging for help. Bullets were flying everywhere and there was nowhere to hide.

"There was nothing we could do," she said.

Van Rensburg's brother, Frik, said the family had decided to donate his brother's organs after doctors declared him brain-dead.

"They will be given to people who need them to survive," he said. "We are battling. We are not coping."

Pretoria Academic Hospital spokesperson Freda Kobo said Venter and Grobbelaar were in critical conditions, while Claasen was stable.

Bougainville Hospital staff said Oosthuizen and Koen were also stable.

Maybe that's your problem - you're too relgious and don't have the true foundation and beliefs of a follower of Christ. The white south africans did NOT start or initiate apatheid!!! Firstly you can kiss my ass if you are a God fearing and religious man. No God fearing,religious man would make the idiot statement as you have.

Secondly we are talking about blatant muder cases and not your normal run of the mill stuff.

Thirdly you are a typical example of a black man looking for any excuse to justify murdering innocent people.
You make it sound as though every white farmer killed a black and therefore murder them until they are either all killed or leave the county.You must be a rocket scientest.

You should move to Zimbabwe where you can experience the living conditions created by your black brothers, where the farmers were either killed or chased of their farms.
For your information we have over 3 million illigal immigrants here in SA who have run away from their black leader(MUGABE)in Zimbabwe, and yes "not running away from any white farmers"

Why don't you come here and stay in one of the townships and stand on a street corner shouting out that you are a non-SA but you are black and see what happens to you.

Even though I’m god fearing and religious guy still I couldn’t feel any kind of sympathy for white farmers..becuase we all know what they did in apartheid time and if one tried to enslave me in my own country economically or practically I would have done the same thing until all of them leave Africa alone and returned back to where ever they came from. Can you image Africans control most of the farm land in Europe including there wealth? What would u have done then to get rid of them??

I find it strange that you choose the topics you do to shoot down the feelings that other people express with disgust about murders taking place here where we still live in SA.
In my books if you choose to play the apartheid and race card in these instances you are trying to justify the brutal murders that have taken place recently here in SA. SHAME ON YOU AS AN EX-SA.....SHAME.

You seem to derive joy at saying that it is us whites that are just racists, and that justifies what we are complaining about.
It is the present that we are talking about and not some story made up or fairy tale.

You state proudly that you are a S African.Well two questions for you. 1.Are you a black or a white who took the chicken run for the safety and security of America? 2. Why do you always hide behind the racist card?
Let us put the cards on the table and call a spade a spade.
You are the one assocciated with the racist friends, for example your PAC friends who at their confrences sing "kill a farmer kill a boer" which naturally isn't racist in your books.
Or their bed partners from the ANC who sing bring me my machine gun which naturally helps build race relations in your books.

Well Russell how much do you know about south africa? Not much it seems, unless political correctness has overtaken the need for truth. David is quite correct in his statements, we are a white minority, disarmed and under attack, (we wish we were armed like the Texans), certainly there are white criminals but not too many of them running around torturing helpless 86 year old blacks, chopping off their extremities with pruning shears, burning them with irons and so on, gang raping, looting and murdering there way across the country, for nothing! Yes it is racism, black racism without a shadow of doubt, and yes the anc are a bunch of black commie racist scumbag criminals for the most part, who have virtually destroyed our once great country, so dream your politically correct dreams, at least some of us can call a spade a spade and see what is happening around us.

David how mutch do you know about the blacks in South Africa? Judging by your post it comes across as racist have you ever been to South Africa? Did it ever ocur to you that there are white crininals as well.

After reading this article I wish that I could have helped these white south african people. I wish the whites had all been armed like we are here in Texas. It is ashamed that law abiding whites cannot conduct their day to day business without dumb black africans trying to kill them. The blacks in south africa act like stone age people with weapons.

Actually if you read the original Beeld newspaper reports, you'd never know the ethnic origin of the attacked people at all -- except for their surnames and the suburb they live in, it would have remained guess-work -- but this time around, there were people with inside information who could provide more details.

It's true that normally, the SA news media merely mentions that a man or woman or child had been a victim of some crime. There seems to be a very deliberate attempt to keep all mention of ethnic origin out of the newspaper reports. Strange, that, since the SA Police statistics still list victims and perpetrators by race. So clearly, they are censoring this information when talking to the news media.

yesterday Mbeki mentioned in a comment that 'most of the victims of crime were in the black townships." He's allowed to make such comments but nobody else in South Africa apparently is allowed to know the actual facts about the race of crime victims.

While I feel very sorry for the families involved I like this kind of reporting, we need to see more who is killing who - glad to see that they are reporting on Afrikaaners being singled out instead of this man killed that man. Again my condolensces to the families.

Supermarket attack: Afrikaans-speaking student killed:

July 12 2007 -- Pretoria. Twenty-one-year old Afrikaans-speaking Daniel Franca, an education student at the local university, was murdered together with a 34-year-old (unnamed) security guard at his family's white-owned Alpha supermarket. Three armed men killed them . No-one has been arrested.

Many Indians in South Africa -- such as Mahatma Ghandi and the South African ANC-freedom fighter Ahmed Kathrada (imprisoned with Nelson Mandela at Robben Island for his terrorist activities) -- were actually born in rural towns such as Schweizer-Reneke, and after gaining their freedom from British-colonial slavery, these Indians started running spaza shops. Their forefathers were shipped as indentured labourers by the British Empire which also ruled South Africa after defeating the independent Boer Republics in 1902.

Kathrada wrote in his recent memoirs: "Most shops in Schweizer-Reneke were run by Indians like my father, and the poor, Afrikaner locals were also forced to do business with the Indians."

These Asian shopkeepers all over South Africa also provide a very valuable service to these poor African communities, supplying fresh produce and groceries on a daily basis to black communities where no other shops exist at all.

Yet this week, in spite of the Indians' political stance on the side of the ANC-regime, about 4,000 blacks from Ipelegeng, Charon, Glaudina and Extension 5 organised themselves into murderous attack groups and started burning and looting all these spaza shops which are owned by these so-called ' foreigners' who have been in South Africa through no fault of their own since 1929.

All three high schools from these townships had also simultaneously emptied out mysteriously while these young men set about, attacking the spaza-shops and forcing hundreds of Indian families to flee in panic.

Police mostly sat on their hands, but they did finally arrest one man at about 9am in Charon township on Wednesday while he was attacking the Asian owners of a spaza-shop.

Acting municipal manager Msosa Motlashuping said the violence against "foreign shop-owners had just erupted without any apparent reason" on Tuesday.

The municipality had never been approached by these black residents with any kind of grievances whatsoever. There is no identifiable group or organisation that has taken responsibility for these attacks," he said.

Motlashuping also commented that it was deeply mysterious that three high schools had also stood empty in Ipelegeng on Wednesday at the height of the violence...
